New CPU for old motherboard, unsure what is best for gaming

My CPU is the bottleneck on my pc that I use primarily for gaming and I want to upgrade the CPU on my old motherboard instead of buying a new motherboard and CPU but I'm not sure what is the best CPU to get. My motherboard is an AMD 970 pro3 and I was looking at this list of compatible CPUs: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970%20Pro3/index.asp#CPU and I can't tell what would be the best for gaming on my motherboard. My current CPU is an AMD FX-4170. Any help is appreciated, thank you! And of course if more information is needed I would be happy to share.

The best option based on the list of supported CPUs would probably be the FX-8300, but it's not going to be a great gaming CPU compared to modern CPUs. Even the Ryzen 3 3300X or Core i3 10100 would be better for gaming.

I'd recommend abandoning that platform and moving to a more recent one for the best experience.
