So after much consideration I have finally picked all my parts, purchased them all and they are on their way from amazon.

What I have finally decided to do is upgrade my current system with the intention of upgrading the CPU around September time.

My parts are:

CPU: AMD FX 6350 (upgraded to AMD FX 8350)

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i

Mobo: Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z

Ram: 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance Pro (upgraded to 4x4GB GSkill Ripjaws Z)

GPU: MSI R9 290 Gaming

SSD: 120GB Crucial M500

          64GB Crucial M4

HDD: 2TB Seagate Barracuda

PSU: 620W Seasonic S12II (upgraded to Corsair RM1000)

5.25": Lite On ihas124-04

Case: Fractal Design R4 Black Windowed

I cannot wait to get building, and will be sure to update this thread with photos during the build process

EDIT 14/04/2014

The first lot of pictures, unfortunately these are low-res instagram shots

EDIT 03/05/2014

Hi everyone, I fancied sharing another picture with you all and another angle.

Since last time there have been some annoyances with my system, the system has been experiencing lock ups and freezes which I have been trying to troubleshoot and while upgrading my RAM has seemingly fixed the issue while in Windows, the problem still persists when doing something very specific in the BIOS, link to the problem is here http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/147220-what-could-cause-this-problem/

However I have received all my cable extensions, changed the blue led on the power button to a red one and as I said upgraded the RAM, I have also purchased the new CPU which shall be an 8350.

Here are some more shots

24nr1js.jpg

My next plan for the build is to paint all the PCI slot covers and hard drive mounts red to match the theme of the system, I am still looking at more possible upgrades for the future, these include crossfiring the gpu and adding a sound card just to fill the case up a bit, along with a brighter power led if I can get my hands on one.

Hopefully I shall be able to get a decent overclock with the H100i to not bottleneck the 290 too much in the mean time

This build has kind of evolved from what I originally set out to make last year, on a limited budget last year I made a system with the M4, 6350 and 7790 as that is all I could afford back then. A few months ago I added the M500 which is acting just as a boot drive and the M4 only has Battlefield 4 on it now, The PSU was just something I felt like spending a decent amount of money on would be a worthwhile investment.

Wattage calculators estimate that the system could be pulling 500W, it's always best to have a little bit of headroom

That is not over-kill. Why would he want to be completely locked down on any future expansionIt is hardly a dump cpu either. a 6350 would be only a couple of fps slower than something like a 4570k on almost all new games.

It looks like a great build, Have fun.

Also if I do move up to the FX 9xxx series the TDP of those CPUs are around 220W, bringing my overall wattage to around 600W

Hate to double post again, but I have also gone for Linus' thermal compound of choice, IC Diamond, I don't know how much difference it will make compared to the Corsair stuff on the H100i, but I just thought why not?

Go 8350, 9xxx just uses way too much power.

Yeah, the TDP is pretty high, and I am only going to be gaming and every now and again streaming so I suppose the 8350 would be a great choice

a couple of what? http://www.hardcoreware.net/intel-core-i3-4340-review/2/

anyway the pc wont use 500W ,dont use those calculators, they suck. yout pc uses around 350W

the 9xxx is just an overclocked fx8350 ,no need to spend more for the same thing

So guys, most of my parts came today. The Define R4 is beautiful! me and my flatmate spent a good 20 minutes just oogling and drooling over the build quality and sheer amount of space between the back of the motherboard tray and the back panel. 100% worth the £80 I spent on it. My motherboard is looking great as well, moving from the Gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3 to the Crosshair V Formula-Z was sure to impress me anyway. the H100i is still in its box until I actually start the build (after I get this mountain of coursework handed in this week) Also the IC Diamond has come and what can I say about that? ... its thermal compound... its pretty silver looking... My GPU is set to be delivered before noon tomorrow morning, my coursework should be handed in on Thursday, add that to a busy day on Friday... I should more than likely be building on Saturday!

I will be sure to post pretty pictures of all my parts tomorrow when the GPU arrives!

I'm glad you didn't go with a 9590. Thankfully you have an H100i; if you didn't a FX-9xxx would be game over for your temps and power draw in that case.

9590 isnt a bad choice if you can get it for cheap. Its like instantly winning the 8350 silicon lottery. but only if it is cheap mind you.

But doesn't that ruin the value of the 9590? By getting a 9590, one must invest in a good board with good VRMs and VRM/chipset cooling, capable of sustaining that chip; one must also invest in a good liquid cooler, unless one would like a air-cooled, >1kg tank like the D14 or Heligon or Dark Rock Pro 3, in which case a good case fan setup will be needed to exhaust all that heat.

An 8350 is nice because a 212 Evo is fine and people throw it in all kinds of AM3+ boards.

Looks great.  Nice rig.

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.

Hi everyone,
I have had an extremely busy week with university deadlines and moving back home, however I have had time to complete the build, and I must say I am loving the new rig. There have been a few slight changes and plans for another upgrade made so I will list them below in my new parts list. I also will add some nice high-res photos when I can, until then my Instagram photo will have to suffice.

CPU: AMD FX 6350 (will be upgrading to the 8350 in September)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i (with two SP120s in Pull)
Mobo: Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro Red (will be upgrading to 16GB in September)
GPU: MSI R9 290 Gaming OC
Storage: - SSD: 120GB Crucial M500 (Boot)
64GB Crucial M4 (For Main game I am playing)
HDD: 2TB Seagate Barracuda (May look at getting another of these for recording gameplay)
PSU: Corsair RM1000 (when my system was first built it kept cutting out when the GPU would come under load, I have purchased this with the intention of crossfiring my GPU in the future)
ODD: Liteon iHas124-04 (may upgrade to a blueray drive)
Case: Fractal Design R4 Windowed
Fans: Intake - 2x Noctua NF-A14 FLX
          Cpu Cooler 2x Corsair SP120
          Exhaust 1x Corsair AF140
