What should i upgrade?

i was thinking of upgrading my pc for around $300 CAD i was wondering what component(s) i should upgrade i have a rtx 2070 and an i5 9400 with an asrock mainboard

What makes you think, you should upgrade your PC?
Don't you like your PC case anymore or is there something, you cant do, which you would like to do with your current PC?

(As you can see down below, my build also contains a RTX 2070 and an Intel 9000 series CPU and I'm pretty happy about it and how quiet it is. Perfect for 1440p gaming.)

im not entirely satisfied with the performance in houdini both the simulation and rendering times suck.

I googled houdini and it seems like it benefits from a good CPU with multiple cores.
So you could upgrade to an i7.

The i7 9700 is compatible with your motherboards CPU socket.
In germany it costs 277,96 Euro, which are 408,21 CAD.
