Current clamp for testing power draw of different PC components?

y3llowduk

Hi All, I'm after a current clamp device to measure the current through the different cables in my PC. Just for fun/out of interest while tinkering with overclocking. I've seen ones on amazon for like £30 which claim to read DC current, is there anything I need to look out for? Don't know much about this stuff. I assume any of them with decent reviews will be OK? Don't need good accuracy, maybe +/- 3W Tia!

My UT210-E has a phenomenally accurate DC current clamp. I truly wasn't expecting it to do so, but it was accurate to within 100mA iirc.

Needs to be something that uses a hall effect sensor, rather than a current transformer / rogowski coil. If you want to look at straight DC current, then a clamp meter (that can do DC measurements) will work. A LEM sensor would be another option to consider. Not too expensive, and some of them have pretty wide bandwidth ( ~200 kHz), so you could look at the current waveform on a scope with one.
