why is the gpu shortage greater than the cpu shortage (if there is a shortage for cpu at all)?

i'm surprised how available most cpu's are, and they are not insanely over priced like the graphic cards.

why is this? sorry i'm really curious. i'm not being sarcastic.

thanks.

Miners buy up GPU's en masse and not CPU's.

A huge amount of AMD's GPU chips go into the latest Sony and Microsoft consoles.

There are other factors but those are two that play a part.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

i just thought the global chip shortage would impact cpu's.

is it possible that when eth difficulty gets too high, like btc, people might move to asic machines?

not sure about the chips, would think the chips for GPUs are just harder to produce and maybe larger?

Also you dont need as many CPUs of the top end, or for mining?

but like you say, have seen some drop in price for some newer CPUs (little recover on GPUs too, but still way above)

There are future issues like there has been talked about some shortages, and there might be enough of certain CPUs out there for the demand and for the price drop.

to the lack of chips for cars to smart devices, which can impact some parts and production? and to the amount of CPUs that was made before hand?

Etherium isn't far off from needing ASICs now

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

Ethereum mining hands down the cause of the rising GPU prices.

In a eth rig, you can have up to 12 GPU but only 1 CPU.

That is why it doesn't effect CPU stocks.

When? People are saying this for 6 months now.

Mining still going strong.

Eth has also been saying they'd switch to proof of stake for... A while.

the used car market has already exploded because of the global chip shortage. so it's believed that the pandemic caused the global chip shortage, and then crypto price exploded and people bought up all the graphics cards.

what a perfect storm.

i don't know much about crypto mining. i think i heard people saying that gpu mining is for eth, and asic is for btc.

It'll happen like it did for Bitcoin.  Once upon a time BTC was mined on consumer hardware too
