More or faster ram?

Go to solution Solved by Skiiwee29,

RAM on intel chips isn't as speed dependent as it is on AMD Ryzen chips. That said, 16gb at 3000 will be the better option as you likely will never out utilize that, even in heavily modded MC.

Hello,

A friend of mine currently upgraded his pc so he gave me his old CPU, MB and RAM (i7 7700k, ASUS Z270 K, 2x8GB@2400MHz + 2x8GB@3000MHz).

It is an upgrade for me but now i'm wondering if i should use 32gb@2400 or 16gb@3000 as i also like to play modded mc where you most likely cannot have enough ram.

Thx in advance <3

RAM capacity only matters if you don't have enough. If you can get by with 16GB without paging to the filesystem, then the extra memory clocks will be better with no downside. However, if you exceed 16GB, then it will end up being far slower in practice.

Just monitor your current RAM utilization and see what you're using in the most extreme scenarios of how you will use your computer. If you're under 16GB, then go for it, but otherwise stick with what you have.
