Weird refresh rates

I have a 144hz monitor from AOC (2590G4) and if I recall correctly, when I was using a HDMI cable, the refresh rates appeared as whole numbers, but now I am using a display port cable and the refresh rates are really funky decimals, is there a reason for this and should I switch back to using HDMI.
