Hi guys iv just bought a hp dl385p server to try turning into a multi emulation  rig. im aiminh to be able to run at least 6 windows of MEMU OR BLUESTACKS at once.

Server Details are in picture.

I plan to fit 2 x opteron 6282se and 1tb of ssdd

I also plan to double the RAM but il need to wait and see the frequency of the current ram.

A low end graphics card since the game i mainly play uses more cpu and memory than GPU.

i know this isnt going to be anything special. I just need it to do the tasks.

My current PC is an old ATHLON x4 860k + 16gb of ram. But lets be honest its only a dual core in reality and struggles.

Any input would be appreciated.

I really hope you didn't spend too much on this. I got two supermicros with similar processors (I don't remember what exactly but still), 48GB of RAM total, for around 300 bucks, a couple years back.

Are you planning to use this as a personal rig? 🙂

Isn't windows three-sixty-five just a more recent version of windows three-eleven?

PAID $70. yes i plan to run it in my garage as thats where my current pc lives. That way the noise wont be a problem and i plan to run it through RD CLIENT when im away from home.

When you see the prices of the xeons and other modern chips just now i felt this could be a good compromise if it works out the way i want it to.

Yeah, I can confirm, those machines can get noisy. At least the Supermicros do, but from my experience with DELL blades, I don't think they're gonna be quieter. 😉

I would personally avoid Remote Desktop, as I don't like the security "features" around that protocol, and also I don't want to continue paying for windows licenses as they bait-n-switched windows 10 being the "last windows ever"... But to each their own, if that works for you, roll with it.

Yeah, I mean, I plan on replacing my Opterons with Threadrippers, because I want those machines to be capable of computing well and fast. But other than that, Opterons are a great value, yes. That is, unless you pay a premium for the electricity.

I think it should. Either way, you can replace the board in them and run something else if it does not.

In that case I'd recommend grabbing something nvidia so you can wireguard and moonlight.

Yeah the noise isnt a worry. In the future if it runs nice i think i would find some quieter fans but im really not fussed. The RD CLIENT is the only option i seem to have any luck with conection to my pc. I did try chrome but it wasnt doing the job right.

The server world isnt something i know much about tbh but i know that the opterons have always been crap compared to xeons. As you said thread ripper would be a nice upgrade in the future. Just have to wait and see. I think the biggest let down may be that they dont run fast enough but im hoping if i assign 4 cores per emulator that should help as just now my athlon only offers 1 core per emulator

I currently run an old navidia geforce gt 630 so i dont think it will be hard to upgrade from that.

Id really suggest against cloing the os. Why not do a clean install? much fewer issues, and easier.

You also will need win 10 pro or above or win server to support dual socket.

It was just so i didnt have to transfer everything over. I have windoss 10 pro. It was showing 2 sockets 12 cores a 24 threads but i thing it can be changed to 24 cores in config.

I think il just have to go with your suggestion and put a cleen install on it.  Il see how i get on today. Thank you

Thanks. Had to re format everything but seems to have worked. Whats the fastest way to transfer all my programs and files? I dont reall want to have to re install if i dont need to. Thanks 😀

You can setup a file share.

Your gonna have to reinstall programs, but just use the same installers and your good.
