Mouse Freezing Randomly When Playing Games

god_bmxes

System Info:

OS - Windows 10 Pro 64 bit (Build 19042.1110)

MOBO - Asus ROG Maximus X Hero WiFi (Bios Version 2203 date 10/7/19 and I just updated to 2503 date 9/25/20)

CPU - 8700k OCed to 5.0Ghz all core

RAM - 16GB of G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3000Mhz

GPU - MSi RTX 2070 Super Gaming X on Dragon Center OC mode

Drives - Boot/C drive 2TB Sabrent  Rocket Q NVMe PCIe m.2 / WD Black 2TB

PSU - Corsair HX750

Mice - First mouse that had the issue was a Glorious Model D, second mouse was a Corsair Iron Claw Wireless RGB

Programs running while issue happens - iCUE, Steam, Battle.net, "NoiseBlocker", XBOX app, Spotify, Chrome with a few YouTube videos in tabs, the game I was playing (Warzone/ATS), might be some other small utilities running but those are most of the major programs running at the time.

Problem - SO about a week ago I was playing Warzone and my mouse started locking up randomly, I reseated the mouse and rebooted my computer and I didn't notice it again until last night. Same symptom as before, randomly locking up in Warzone and also noticed on American Truck sim as well now. Below is all the TSing I have done so far

1. Reseated mouse, tried a rear port on the MOBO, cleaned mouse sensor all to no avail

2. Switched to the Ironclaw in wireless mode, saw no issues, tried wired to charge the mouse while using it and it started up again, wireless mode seemed to work fine

3. Downloaded an updates for windows, all I had was a anti virus update

4. Ran windows defender to be sure I was fine, don't do anything on the gaming PC other than games and YouTube mostly so thought a virus was unlikely

5. Uninstalled mouse drivers and rebooted to have it auto reinstall

6. While American Truck Sim was running in the background I played a song on Spotify and moved my mouse to see if any audio stopped and found it was fine when the mouse froze

7. (Newest) Updated the BIOS using the BIOS update tool that's in the BIOS (new version is 2503)

So far that's all I have done, one thing to note is that its only mice having the issue and only wired mice. The Ironclaw in wireless mode was fine. My DAC is USB and has no issues as well as my keyboard, and MIC as well. I doubt the BIOS update will fic this but I will reply shortly if it does change anything

Whats ram usage like while doing all that?

COD can use a decent chunk of 16GB, and with all the apps there and background swapped data you can't see...

Could be swapping data to disk and causing stutters based on background activities (running apps not doing "anything" still have things going on internally)

if you play those games WITHOUT all that background tasking what happens?

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I see what your saying, never had an issue like that before though as I almost always have something else going on in the bnackground. I will try that and see what it does though I don't think it would be a limitation, seems more like a software thing as its only with mice while connected to the computer and nothing else.

Should update that I now can confirm that its only while playing a game. Currently running ATS and watching youtube and its lagging again, only using 50% memory.

Another minor update, 100 can confirm its only mice that are wired, unplugged the Ironclaw while it was happening and its gone again, plug it back in and its back to lagging

Okay while playing ATS I stopped all unnecessary programs/utilities, only had steam and ATS running and iCUE as well. Found that with the mouse plugged in I got the random lag still and when unplugged it went back to normal. I recorded it if a video helps.

Okay so now it freezes when not running games, so its not a HW issue from what I can gather. Tried the drivers again to no avail. Looked in event viewer and found this happening constantly.

Okay so I found a guide that helped that by editing ownership. That helped a ton and now its almost gone, now getting a new error "The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

Not sure if that error is relevant or not but at this point if it continues I am going to reinstall Windows or something

Still happening, windows updated and it stopped for a short while, got back on after a few days off and its back but slightly different. When using the model D it still stops like it used to but the iron claw when wired constantly makes noises like its disconnecting but it does not freeze or anything. This is the weirdest none consistent issue I have ever seen before.

Note: the issue with the COM error seems to be related to the xbox live stuff on windows, that should not stop a mouse from what I understand
