I want to practice so I can overclock a zen 3 ryzen 9.

Not possible in that budget

Maybe a ryzen 3 3100 or 3300x + b450 tomahawk max, still gonna be around 200-250$

I was looking at an amd a10-6800k and an ASUS FM2+ a88x motherboard for a little over $100, but was wondering if something else would be better, like an intel i5-3570k and a z77 motherboard. I don't know much about overclocking. I would probably also use the pc for other stuff, such as light gaming.

Whats your budget?

Do you have another pc?

Why do you want to practice overclocking?

Tbh go for 65 or 45nm core cpus, ive even accidentally jammed 2v into my poor 45nm pentium e6700 three times and it still hasnt died

Only reason i wouldnt reccomend this platform for ocing is that the hardware is so cheap and durable that you get really used to it, then once you move to a newer platform like ryzen and you try 1.8v and the cpu is dead, aka the platform makes you quite careless when messing around with your hardware

I suggest the core 2 duo e8600 + a decent p45 or x38 board, you may also want to experiment with the pentium e55-5800 as they have pretty high multi and even on a g31 i got my e5400 to 4.2ghz bootable, 4.65ghz for a bios only oc
