Parallels and VMWare don't support x86 Windows on M1, only Windows on ARM.

Virtualbox doesn't support M1 at all. You're not really missing anything there as it absolutely sucks in comparison to Parallels and VMWare with their direct hardware access.

VMware isn't actively supporting Windows virtualization on Apple Silicon (ARM). Currently they are working on Linux support.

Parallels seem to support running 'Windows on ARM' versions in their latest offering. But this is obviously quite different from your normal windows install.

As for Virtual Box, Roswell has indicated it's not supported.

So if you need to run regular x86/x64 Windows in a VM, you need to stick with an Intel based Mac for now.

Another option is QEMU (this software allows to emulate anything on anything, but VERY slowly). For example, I managed to run Mac OS X Tiger for PowerPC on a regular Intel machine.
