So i make YouTube videos and i record with Dxtory i have been getting random frame drops in my videos i think this is because i am running my OS & Games plus Recording all on the one Hard Drive so i am thinking about getting an SSD to record to this means i will be able to record at full HD and at 60FPS. If i decide not to get an SSD what Hard Drive should i get it needs to be fast so i can record to it any suggestions? thanks.

What i would suggest doing is buying an SSD. Installing your OS on said SSD, and games too. Record to HDD with DXTORY.

Can i get the rest of your system specs?

Record to a different hard drive, that is why  you are getting frame drops

SSDs are cheap at the moment, you can get a 120gb kingston for $65 on amazon or a 256 samsung evo 840 for $139. You should use the SSD for OS & a few games & then your HDD for recording. Getting an SSD is worth the money even if it doesn't solve your problem, they're the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Most HDDs should be plenty fast for recording full hd @ 60fps with dxtory, it even has a built in speed test so you can check your write speed. Are you using the stock dxtory codec or something like Lagarith lossless? Stock dxtory codec is completely raw & much larger files than lagarith so it MAY be exceeding your write speed but improbable. I highly recommend using Lagarith with dxtory: http://lags.leetcode.net/codec.html

Most likely problem though is simply because you're playing a game off of the same drive you're recording to. Even getting another HDD & putting your games on it & recording to a different drive would probably solve your problem. You don't want to be trying to read from the same drive you're writing huge volumes of video data to.

CPU - 3770k @ 4.7GHz | Motherboard - Asrock Z77 Extreme4 | RAM - Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB @ 1600 | GPU - EVGA GTX 770 SC ACX (2x SLI) | Case - Coolermaster HAF XM | Cooling - CM EVO 212 | Storage - Corsair Force 3 90GB | WD 2TB x 2 | PSU - Thermaltake SMART 850W | Display - Asus VG248QE 144hz + GSYNC kit |  Mouse - R.A.T. 7 | Sound - Creative Titanium X-FI HD | DT990 | ATH-M50 | ATH-AD700

I would suggest against getting a Kingston V300 SSD. As they are using really shitty flash NAND. Samsung/Corsair/Intel SSD's are what you're looking for.
