Hello all,

Recently I managed to score a 3080ti. I installed all my drivers for the new card, used DDU to uninstall my old amd drivers, made sure to check all my drivers on my CPU/chipset side as well. But when playing games like Far Cry 5 and Hell let Loose I'm barely getting 60-70 FPS in both titles just for example, even some harder to run games like DCS that I had no trouble running before simply refuse to load unless I lower the settings to medium or low. I'm new to the whole Nvidia thing so maybe there's a Nvidia control panel tab I haven't clicked that I should, only thing I've changed is for higher power usage. GPU temps are hovering around 60 C at idle as well, which seems very high. Would a new CPU help me out or is there a software solution that would work?

Specs

Ryzen 7 3700x @ 4.2GHz

32GB RAM @ 3200MHz 8x4

Gigabyte 3080ti gaming

All games on SSD's

the cpu's a bottleneck but it shouldn't be at 70~ ish fps, something else is going on like ram timings or driver conflicts even after ddu etc.

You should also use msi afterburner to check fan speeds and power limits.

I'm assuming you are talking about 4k frame rates?

What is your PSU?

Are you using two separate pcie power cables?

What Resolution are you talking about?

definitely too high for idle

Any other problems other than FPS and high idle temps?

Since your idle temps are so high what temps do you get under load?

It's actually only 1440, that's why it's so confusing for me why the low frames. I have GPU Tweak 2 and my power limit is at 100.

PSU is a Asus Thor 850w, 1440 p 165 Hz mostly, no other issues so far. I used to get soft locks in windows just watching videos/work, but since I verified my windows files I haven't had any other issues. Using two separate power cables for GPU.

What's your GPU usage and what are the clock speeds

GPU usage is about 70-90 percent. A little higher/lower depending on what game of course. clock speeds peak right above 2000 Mhz, then falls 1750-1800 under load at temps. Fans under load stay 90-100% just to stop thermal throttling further.

Is that a dual bios card? If so are you maybe on the quiet mode?

All of the reviews, and from my personal experience note the difference between the quite and OC mode on the card is margin of error on FPS. clocks stay basically the same as well.

Ok. Your temps just seem a little bit on the high side. Depending on the airflow in your case that could also contribute to those higher temps.

I have an EVGA 3080 ti and it idles at 37c.  At that temperature the fans are off.

A 3080 ti needs a powerful CPU to perform well. I use a 5800x and with Far Cry 5 at 1440p ultra it averages 152fps in the bench. 4k is 105fps.

Even if you improve your frames on the 3700x you still won't be close to getting the most out of a 3080 ti.

The GPU throttles in the mid 80s unless you set the power limit over 100%. Then it will throttle at 91c.

For the card to perform well temps need to be below 79c.

My 3080 ti is in a CM H500p Mesh. I had no GPU temperature issues when a EVGA 2080 ti was installed but the 3080 ti runs hotter.  I ended up installing a 60mm exhaust fan below the GPU so the hot air did not build up blow the GPU.

Before the fan was installed the glass below the GPU would get hot benching. With the fan the glass stays cool.

So some fans and a new cpu are in my future then.. Any reccomendations for a MOBO? What usage are you looking at during gaming on your CPU?

CPU usage depends on how many cores the game uses and how many cores you have. So my 10 core i9 gets the lowest and my 6 core CPUs get the highest.

Far Cry 5 about 30% on a 8 core.

RDR 2 is around 43% on a 8 core.

Horizon Zero Dawn 68% on a 8 core.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla 30% on a 8 core.

GPU usage is better on the 3080 ti than it was on the 2080 ti so 4k, 1440p in the 90s and 1080p in the 80s.

I don't by cheap motherboards so with Ryzen I am using an AORUS Master x570. I originally bought a ASUS Crosshair Hero x570 but it was DOA. If I bought again it would be the Dark version of the Hero or another Master.
