Was thinking of using blue drives at 5400 rpm. So I guess it's safe, eh? Also, whats the limit degrees?

Don't know what the operating limit is, but CrystalDiskInfo shows the temp as yellow when they get up to 55.

OK, I've held back for too long.

So can anyone guess why drive bays are always the first to get hit with inlet air? Anyone ever see a drive bay situated near the back (hot area) of the air flow?

Sure, many have not had a hard drive overheat, but it does not mean they won't, especially as they get older (talking years on under a year). Look around all case designs and their selected drive bay location.

Think, think, think...

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

Yeah I know that. But ever also think that they are more than one trays? Maybe only one mechancial HDD won't overheat, that's was the main purpose of this post...

Surprise that no one has linked Google's study on it: http://static.googleusercontent.com/media/research.google.com/en//archive/disk_failures.pdf

AFR = Average Failure Rate

Having hot HDD apparently isn't a big issue.

Unless you have a 10K RPM or higher hard drive, most will be fine.

so what is a good temperature for a HDD. i use a laptop most of the time, it averages 35-40dC, but in summer when it gets 40+ dC, the HDD gets to 50-55 dC. its that bad for it ot not.

It's definitely not good. I like to play it on the safe side, so I would get a laptop cooler of some kind.
