Why is minecraft so slow?

So when I play minecraft it takes about 4 minutes to start and 2 minutes to load a texture pack. On my old computer that was a piece of garbage it started in under 30 seconds and loaded a texture pack in under 10 seconds. Sometimes the text in game looks messed as well because it's not loading it fast enough. Is there a way to fix this?

The Print Screen key on your keyboard (it's up near Scroll Lock) or F2 in Minecraft.

Print screen isn't doing anything.

You have to paste it into Paint or something. It copies the screenshot to your clipboard (where text and images go when you cut or copy/paste things)

Do you have video card drivers and/or MCpatcher/Optifine installed? If not, get one of the two. It helps with Texture Packs

I'd recommend optifine

The year is 20XX. Everyone plays Fox at TAS levels of perfection. Because of this, the winner of a match depends solely on port priority. The RPS metagame has evolved to ridiculous levels due to it being the only remaining factor to decide matches.

Only Abate, Axe, and Wobbles can save us.

A virus?

Not to get you worried but it could be somthing like bloatware, malware etc. that slows down your computer if the slowness is just bound to MC that it's highly unlikely. I;m just throwing ideas around.

Edit: I'm not the smartest when it comes to pc's so lets see what others have to say

And if this was the problem, how would i fix it?

Depends. Viruses can be tricky. I'd give you an answer but I feel that I would give you false info so I'm gonna let somebody else say. I'm not exactly a genius with PC's quite yet.

But for a start do you have an antivirus? if so what?

I have avast, but it says there's no problem.

Well the issue might be completely unrelated to a virus then.

I honestly have no other ideas. Sorry I couldn't help much but it's late here and I'm going to sleep. Maybe I can think of something in the morning.
