Hi All.

So bit of a story Im a freelance Concept artist/ Illustrator using Both 2D (Photoshop) and 3D (Zbrush, Blender). About 3 years ago I suffered some pretty bad damage to my dominant hand so have been unable to draw/ design properly. So have been content with the PC i have currently but in saying that its a few years old. (Lenovo Ideacentre, 16gb ram) I know pretty bad. Im healing up and looking to jump back into design full on so am Currently putting together a new system. Below is the Build im putting together. THIS IS THE FIRST BUILD ive ever done and after pretty much watching EVERY LINUS TECH TIP video I thought i could do it myself and plan to but would like to make sure everything Ive got will work together.

And suggestions, tweeks are most welcome. I already have the Mother Board and CPU and Samsung 500GB SSD980. The rest im still working on. I intend to upgrade the graphics card later but current climate the one I have on the list is one thats avail.

Anyway PLEASE HELP and Thanks

Aside from the design im also planning on using for Video capture and live stream of actual designs and such

Budget (including currency): 3000.00 NZD

Country: New Zealand

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Zbrush, Photoshop, Blender, Unreal Engine 5, Substance Painter, Illustrator, Lightroom, Marvelous Designer

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Heres a rather mediocre pcpartpicker by me .-.

I feel like i could have done better on the budget saving .-.

Gpu is up to you

11700 has better performance than a 3700x and has a decent igpu so if you cant find a gpu or dont need a gpu, you can use the igpu of the 11700 whereas a 3700x does not have an igpu

Idk if you actually need 64gb ram but i dont think you need that much ram, maybe go for a 32gb kit instead

I actually picked computer based art long ago on purpose for illustration.  Drum scanners are a PITA. There’s a lot of freedom in there though I did it mostly for the built in organization it offered. Illustration is a weird field though.  A really specific “look” is harder to achieve through computer art.  I had a prof I. College who’s medium was woodcut.  Little tiny postage stamp things he cut in the end grain of wood and blew up poster size.  Made good money with it long long ago.

Perhaps 1 too many SSDs. You might have a specific plan though.  I understand the gpu chip crunch is breaking in new zealand and Australia at least for used stuff.  That card also won’t do some things you may really want like studio drivers for 10bit color.  you may be able to get away with more gpu than that.  A 1050ti also can’t handle more than 1080p at the outside so if you’re messing with 64gb photoshop files there’s going to be a whole lot of scrolling around. Memory size goes quite heavily to the size of files you need to work on.  Not having to hit swap speeds things up a lot.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

The Reason for the High RAM is that Zbrush relays solely on GPU and Ram nothing to do with graphics card. Higher Ram higher polycount I can sculpt at. Defiantly planning on upgrading GPU once they become more avail again. but until then going with this so I can at least get a display up

There may be a YouTuber who runs a used computer shop. Called TechYESCity you may want to watch just to keep an eye on the card market.  He actually apparently got ahold of a titan for 250 somethings recently. I don’t know what denomination it was but 250 anything for a titan is nice.

I was never sure where techyescity was.  All I have to go on is the guys accent and I can never tell the difference between the two.  I’m sure there probably is one, but I can’t pick it out.  Shipping lanes and proximity to China seem to be what problems are mostly about and Australia and new zeland are in more or less the same direction so a general pricing thing could well affect both.  I take what techies city is finding as a possible harbinger of what we could see elsewhere later.  It’s a complicated thing though so it’s only possible though.

PSU is an odd size. 650w is way more than is needed for a video card that size but may not be enough for a really big video card.  The Nvidia 3xxx series has a rep for extreme power thirst. Frequently has about 100w on exyivant 2xxx stuff. A 3070 has a minimum requirement of 750w but sometimes needs more because of the weird power spikes both the 3xxx and ryzen2 can produce.  Nvidia has some specific stuff that could make it more useful.

Yeah I will be upgrading to a 3xxx series later so thought id get the power supply out the way. thats ok isnt it? or would it be ok to go lower

If you’ve checked you’ve checked.  Some people thing Nvidia’s opinion on how much PSU is needed is low because of the transient spike thing which can throw protection breakers on PSUs.  There are people who know more about how this one works than me and things can vary according to the interior design of different models which I know effectively zero about myself.  There are people who understand it better who are around.  My suspicion is 650w isn’t going to be useful for more than a 3060, but it depends a bit on PSU model and how their over current stuff works.
