Thoughts on the Grip case from dbrand?

BondiBlue

A couple days ago I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, and I'm looking for a case. In the past I've always used the Otterbox Defender series, but I'm not much of a fan of the port covers, and I'm not sure if the Defender would be too bulky on such a large phone or not. I've been looking at the dbrand Grip case, and it seems to be what I'm looking for. Does anyone have any personal experience with it?

I personally haven't used the Grip, but I was in the same place when shopping for a Galaxy S10+ case last year. At the time I was researching, I was put off by the many reviews that cast doubt on the quality, such as the following:

  • https://old.reddit.com/r/dbrand/comments/azq70b/dbrand_grip_for_the_oneplus_6_review/ - Gives 3/5 overall, but 1.5/5 for design/manufacturing.
  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkXP_KUDuJ0 - Basically says it's a pretty average case

Additionally, I read of several of these cases eventually falling apart, which didn't seem great to me. However, both of these reviews (that I saw a year ago), may be outdated; it seems like dbrand is attempting to actually improve the quality of the product, which may make these concerns irrelevant. See this very detailed post (https://old.reddit.com/r/dbrand/comments/irmpup/the_truth_about_the_dbrand_grip/) from dbrand that talks about this.

Since I really haven't had experience with the case, this probably wasn't the most helpful. I wouldn't worry too much about cases, though. As long as you're happy with it and it does enough to protect your device (watch out for that curved display). I personally ended up buying a tech21 Evo Check (with a dbrand skin for good measure) for my S10+, which is decent, but overpriced and not really worthy of a genuine recommendation. Before that, for my OnePlus 3T, I used a random Spigen case from Amazon, which was fine as well. I do agree that the OtterBox Defender is probably too bulky, and while I like their Symmetry series, I'm worried that may be a bit too bulky as well, but I don't know.

That turned into a bit more of a rant than I would've liked, and it's probably a good idea to get other opinions, since I don't have experience with the S21 Ultra or the Grip case, but I hope that this post at least sort of helped.

Definitely, it's given me something to think about. And the curved edges are definitely something to watch out for. I've got two Galaxy S9s, and one of them shattered when I dropped it from my pocket. It was in a Defender too.
