3840x1600 vs 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor

Hi,

3840x1600 - 38"

3440x1440 - 34"

Do you guys have any experience with monitors of these resolutions? Which would you recommend for me if I have purely gaming intentions?

I wonder if the 38" monitor isn't way too big.

I am planning to pair either RTX 3080 or 3080 Ti with the monitor.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have the 1440p variety. It was a big upgrade going to that from a 1080p ultra wide. I can’t speak for the 3840x1600 resolution.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Yes.

I have both.

The 3440 X 1440 monitor looks low res and the 3840 X 1600 doesn't.

That is compering both with a 4k monitor.

If I got 100 frames on the 3440 X 1440 monitor I only got 80 on the 3840 X 1600 monitor so the more power the better.

The 3840x1600 will result in a larger display. Nothing more. At 34" (3440x1440) and 38" (3840x1600) they result in the same pixel density of around 110ppi. So any difference in sharpness is purely placebo.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

I know, all I am considering is size, I am wondering whether the 38" isn't overwhelmingly big.

EDIT: and vice versa whether the 34" isn't small

I haven't had an ultra wide monitor before.

That is entirely subjective. For me, my 34" 3440x1440 screen is more than enough.

I don't think it would be. It just sounds bigger than it is, because the diagonal is much greater on an ultrawide. A 34" ultrawide is roughly the same as a 27" monitor, just with more width, obviously. The 38" would probably be roughly equivalent to a 29" monitor.

I used both for 3D design and there were features in textures I could not see at 3440 X 1440 but could at 3840 X 1600 so to me it was not about pixel density but pixel count.

Here is what my setup looked like on a 53" table.
