What to do with a first gen FireTV stick?

My dad finally got a new FireTV stick because the old one is unusably slow, likes to crash every now and then, and overheats so I had to mount a heatsink to it. The thing is well past it's Prime. I don't wanna make an Amazon account, but I still want some way to mess around with it. I can't find any instructions to install Debian or any other distro which is what I mainly wanted to do. So what can I do with it that doesn't involve having an Amazon account?
