I have a r7 5800x with 32gb of memory running at 3200mhz cl16 and i have a msi gaming x trio 3080 now i noticed im getting stutters in many games so i decided to borrow my friends 1080 Ti and voila no stutters so my 3080 is the problem for some reason so should i RMA it or is it fine? i mean im playing on 1080p ultra im getting good frames but the stutters are very obvious while on the 1080 ti there are no stutters. even many people benchmarking the same build dont get stutters using the 3080 but i do so should i rma it or maybe its just a game issue. it stutters in days gone watch dogs legion horizon zero dawn fortnite hitman and apparently all those games for other people with my build never stutter.

well, technically you only figured out there is something wrong with your system "related" to gpu.

you could only be certain its the gpu by testing another 3080 (with at least similar power draw)

Just saying id try to be certain before rma, you never know what u get back (literally might just be the purchasing price in money)

Btw since im noticing u make a lot of topics about this without giving too much helpful information, is everything at stock settings, no overclocks, xmp etc?

Also can u list *full* specs, please?

First of could you list all your components and settings?

Have you looked at your frames because stuttering is pretty vague. Can you provide some actual FPS numbers?

well for example without ray tracing on watch dogs my frames on ultra 1080p are around maybe 115 it drops from 115 to 100 for example in a second and my gpu usage and power drops then comes back.

ok, so u need to do classic troubleshooting…

strip down system as much u can.

1 or 2 sticks of ram , no xmp

remove harddrives  except OS drive

then check for a day or 2 if issues persist.

if they do its more than likely psu.

u can try testing this by setting a power limit (70-80%) or so *and* downclocking the "core clock" - 20 or so…

then check again if issues  persist

if they do, you'll probably need another psu.

or u just rma, which may or may not fix your problems (as said personally id want to make sure before doing that, and a psu is very cheap in comparison)

115 to 100 FPS seems fine to me.

What do you mean usage and power drops?  how much?

pretty much tried all that except removing drives and still stutters

Since you already tried what Mark Kaine suggested it probably is power delivery then.

Which means PSU but it could also be inconsistent power delivery to the PSU.

I hate to say this but, are you sure? I mean the 1080 ti worked fine doesnt it mean the 3080 itself is the problem?

@Mark Kaine @Doctor_Durf sometimes when the stutters happen, only the usage drops while the power remains constant

1080ti is a 250 watt card the 3080 a 320 watt card.

Is your windows set to max performance?

Do you have access to another system where you could try the 3080 to see if the issues are exclusive to your system or if it also happens on other systems?

Try to monitor power draw with MSI Afterburner and see if power draw drops with usage.

Confirm that if you have a modular PSU, you aren't using split cables like what I use:

Good Point.

Make sure you use 3 separate 8pin cables for your 3080.

@RTX 3071

Was hard to recognize when I first saw this image but now it's really visible. Try 3 separate cables.
