Windows installation gets stuck

a friend of mine asked me to do a fresh install of windows on his laptop (which ran win7 home premium), so i loaded up a CD with win7 home premium and proceeded to do a fresh install...here's where i get stuck. 

 

Everything goes smoothly until the system reboots after the initial install and it seems windows freezes/gets stuck on the finalizing installation screen after the reboot and the only thing i can do after an hour + of being stuck is to restart the laptop and try to continue, but that windows is corrupted so i have to format the hard drive and re do it...just to get stuck again...halp

The only two things I can think of doing is to 1) Reset the laptops bios ready for installing the os 2) Use a new windows installation and see if that helps.

I would try installing it of a USB Flash Drive instead of the optical media.

That might help, but from what he has said it sounds like the install files are corrupt not a problem with the optical drive. But I gues if he was to install a new windows install via a usb that would test both things.

Get a new or create a Windows 7 SP1 install disk, if you cant do that on your computer.  Install linux on his laptop and grab a CD, chuck it in the disk drive, download the ISO provided by Redportal and burn it to the disk.

are there any pre os drivers for the sata controller or motherboard.  its common that additional drivers are need during the install for the hd to be detected or so that enough bits of the computer are recognized to allow the install.

 

have a look on the manufactures website, if this is a oem reinstall disk this should not be an issue.

 

also try re-setting the bios to default, you may have a less common setting causing issues

I agree, though this this is unlikly. It may require a video deriver or other extra driver before the install continues after boot.

reset the bios and used the new ISO, it's still getting frozen. the bios is updated too
