Windows keeps failing to update.

DatBrummie

Hi all.

Every few weeks for the past few months I've had a pop up say that my version of windows is no longer supported and that I need to update. I've always just clicked okay on the pop up and let windows update. Never really looking in to it; just thinking that Microsoft sure are getting through these versions quickly.

Well the other day I finally looked at my update history and it turns out that I've just been trying and failing to do the same update every few weeks for a couple of months and it keeps failing. Always with the same error code: 0xc1900104

I've tried searching both this forum and Google and both searches didn't really come up with anything conclusive. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?

I tried to update again last night, and this time I actually watched it's progress. It got to 61% and then stopped. I left it and went to bed, when I woke up it was still at 61%. When I got home from work it said the update had failed, but that there was another smaller update that was waiting for a restart. So my PC is still able to update it's just the large feature update that it seems to be struggling with?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Idk if this'll work, but you might wanna try clearing update cache (in OS drive's properties > Disk cleanup > Cleanup system files, and then select 'Windows Update Cleanup' and proceed with the cleaning) before requesting it to update.
