Pc upgrade path on a budget. my optiplex 980

Budget 200-500

Country: north Carolina

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: apex r6 gta five video editing 

Other details   i wanna do 1080 medium gaming with around 60 hz

250 gig SSD and 465 gig hard drive i

 8 gigs of ram 16 is the goal

core i7 870

I have a GTX 970 (ill keep it)

PSU Antec 500 watt 

I want to get a new mother board ram and CPU if they don't fit within budget i can stretch it

need a new case cause of cable management and looks

We need more specifications here.

 

Your system is ancient and for now the only reusable part is the 970.

 

What case do you have?

What storage do you have?

What psu do you have (not just wattage the EXACT model)?

I just saw the title update it is a optiplex 980.

 

So all that can be reused is storage and the gpu (maybe psu if you changed it).

 

Your budget is too low to get you a better system.

i wanted to upgrade it slowly the budget is gonna grow soon 

i feel as if i upgraded the cpu and ram it would help alot

You'd need a new cpu, ram, board, psu AND case to be able to upgrade just the cpu. Because this system has very few reusable parts.

 

So pretty much a budget of about 450 will do the trick.

thanks that seems like a reasonable budget I'm lucky enough to have a sad who only works for his kids
