Is there any difference between a ram kit including 2x8 in same box and two 8 gb rams bought individually?

a kit will have matching sticks.

 

Two sticks bought alone, even if the "same" may not be the same chips on the RAM.

Are they both called "Coca Cola"? Yeah, but have the ingredients changed? Oh yes, they have.

The ingredients in this case are the NAND chips, the controller, the PCB design, the materials, ...

I currently run two different kits of 2x16gb ddr4 from Corsair. They have the same part number but different chips. They are on a video editing workstation and never had any problems.

Rule 1 : get a kit.

Rule 2 : get identical modules.

Rule 3 : get any modules.

They all work to some degree.

A kit guarantee the modules are identical.

Identical modules guarantee the compatibility, speed and timings.

Yes you can buy them separately.

If not you can basically pair any modules even with mismatching chips, speed and timings. 

They may not work / compatible, but i found it very rare.

ps. i never buy kits, always singles, where i live kits often more expensive. so why bother, never had a single problem.
