Other options to look at to check out on amazon is the phillips fidelio x2 hr. It seems a lot of european brands are over priced currently probably due to low stock and hifiman he 400i 2020 would have been my other pick doesn't seem to be available currently.

Okay I’ll check those out as well

Not for Sennheisers sadly 😳

For the Beyers possibly, but they're still meant to be intimate mixing monitors. The closed-back MMX300 MKII's have more soundstage than all of their mixing-class cans by comparison, so soundstage is not necessarily directly linked to having an open enclosure.

Honestly I’m always open to other headphones I’ve just heard it’s better to have open back compared to close back headphones.

No not really. You just kinda have to avoid brands that have narrower Soundstages. Sennheiser in this price range specifically. All the brands I mentioned earlier will give you the benefits of open back which is the wide soundstage and more open sound.

Any particular reason why you'd prefer an open-back pair? In this pricerange, you'll see no benefit but sound leakage.

I don’t mind sound leakage and since I’m mostly using this for gaming at least from the research I did . Don’t know how true that it is better for gaming at least. I have dedicated speakers for music so music for this is secondary

not always true depending on price point htough open backs can often be the better headphones. and tuning generally complies better to audiophile preferences than a general consumer. for gaming though open backs are generally better due to the generally wide soundstages allowing for more space to place footsteps and space for separation.

So let’s say I got for the dt990 paired with a schiit modi and magni stack do you think that’s good enough. I don’t need anything crazy I just wanted to be able to have better more precise way of finding enemies like foot steps games sound better wether it’s FPS or rpg .

or would I have to spend more on either headphones or the stack

The theoretical benefits of having open-back headphones in gaming would be that sounds would feel as though they're coming more-so from the room around you rather than the closed space where your drivers are housed (this is where the term 'soundstage' comes from). This however isn't true in a lot of cases due to driver limitations.

It's much easier to find this characteristic in lighter diaphragm planar-magnetic drivers, electrostats, or mid-high end dynamics. They have a better tendency to sound more "open" because either there's physically less material in-between you and the outside world OR the drivers are simply just more capable.

I think that's more than good enough. And you could even save money on the stack and get a soundblaster g6 if you wanted to and have a great setup for gaming.
