Someone in this thread said the rtx 3080s have issues with 750w psu's so I bought an rm850x. But now I plan on overclocking cpu, gpu and ram and feeling like that 850 isn't enough.

Here's my build, the GPU will either be a 3070 at the very least and at best a 3080 ti depending on the price.

I will try to OC as high as that aio and Temps let's me. I can still return the psu but need advice from those that have a similar system-ish.

Its plenty fine for that build.

I would encourage avoiding the 11700k and 11900k as they are really just a waste of money compared to the 10900k or 5800x/5900x.

That and they are the same or worse than the 10900k, and just worse than the 5800x/5900x.

edit: may have missread the post a touch, but if you allready own everything  just test it. You will be testing for stability anyways, and wattage wise its plenty fine

before you spend even more money on your PC.. go to your local hardware store and buy a simple "energy meter"

plug your pc into that, and see how much power you're *actually* drawing...

I have one, but I don't have a gpu yet and the h150i should be delivered tomorrow. That's why I haven't checked yet. Asking because I can return the psu so hoping someone with experience havr the answer.

I debated long and hard and really wanted the 10900K. But I like the vision d so went with aesthetics over €120 and 2 extra cores 😕

I mean, the B550 Vision D exists, its just a touch less white in locations that will be covered by GPUs.

I mean, at the very least save the money by going with the 11700k, as its less of a dumb purchase. (Assuming you have the option to)

But as previously stated, that PSU is fine for that build.

All locked in, those parts are already in the case (minus gpu + h150i). Ideally and had I spent more time I would have gotten the 5950X, it is what it is though.

Approx. How much more does a oced cpu/gpu/ram pull compared to stock +-?

Board power limit on the GPU is 390w.

Which is 5% higher than stock.

If you are running unlocked powerlimit on the CPU, there isn't much point in overclocking that, and the powerdraw wont change much.

Ram pulls fuck all.

Do you game by any chance?

I do

I'm wondering which of these 4 OC methods would be best for a CPU bound game (Unreal Engine 3 / MMO).

Not really had the chance to play around with overclocking on these newer plattforms, so i dont really know.

How does one "feel" like they don't have enough power?

I have an RM850x powering a 3090 FTW 3 with a Threadripper 2970WX 3 in the lab and it feels fine.

Good to know.

It'd based on this: https://skatterbencher.com/2021/04/02/skatterbencher-21-intel-core-i9-11900k-overclocked-to-5500-mhz/

With power limits unlocked and such the cpu is pulling 322 watts and temp is 93C.

Isnt that like bat shit crazy high?

Then again as someone said earlier a rtx bla bla will pull? max 390 watt, not sure how much ram draws. 1.5v each stick?

I guess I didn't calculate it all and panicked a bit. It's an expensive build so don't want to cut corners which should be understandable.

Actually, an Ampere card can pull 2.5x TDP for 100 microseconds, which is why some 750W PSUs have issues, but that's neither here nor there.

Also, Skatterbencher delided the CPU, is using a custom water loop and is running in 21°C ambient.  You're using an AIO (according to your parts list).

That's correct, merely using the article and vid as reference as I can find many thorough guides on OCing that CPU ( as I wrote somewhere I'll be attempting this after 20 years).
I haven' read the whole thing yet so not sure what he used (everything is bookmarked for now as I'm stuck on a 4'7 mobile till this pc can boot up).

All in all its good to hear that he psu will be sufficient. If only this AIO would get here I could actuall turn the pc on.
