How often do you rebuild your PC?

MysticLTT

I build an entire new machine every time someone I know benches just one higher than me.

Not on my watch.

Happy to help.

I just do it whenever I want, if I have the budget.

But to be frank:

- RAM is always on my list. Whenever I get a steep discount, I'll get it. Although I don't use that much.

- CPU is when core and thread counts became so limited. This usually go hand in hand with Motherboard, when the IO is limited.

I have ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). More info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism_spectrum

I apologies if my comments or post offends you in any way, or if my rage got a little too far. I'll try my best to make my post as non-offensive as much as possible.

A full rebuild only happens when i end up upgrading my CPU, this is because by the time i do, it certainly requires a new MB, RAM, Cooling blocks, likely a PSU due to age, at the same time or shortly before/after ill upgrade the GPU, whilst i'm at it ill change the case for a new look.

If i find im consistently maxing out my GPU and unable to maintain a suitable FPS that tells me its time for a GPU grade.

Example:

Spoiler

Built my current core system back in mid 2012. 3930k CPU and a 560ti from old system.

Come that Xmas i built in a CPU only waterloop

In late 2013 i upgraded the GPU to a 780 Classifed.

Later i added the GPU to the waterloop.

MUCH later, 2019, i replaced the 780 classified with a 1080ti with waterblock.

Around the same time i replaced the case with a new one, and bought 8 NF A12x25 Noctua fans for it.

Now this system isnt going to change till i can get my hands on a 4k 120hz capable GPU and suitable 42"-48" OLED display for a reasonable price. With the current ..'issues' ..thats unlikely to happen for another GPU generation or 2. When it does, its unlikely ill upgrade the core system as pushing 4k 120hz puts most the weight on the GPU.

A more pressing concern once all this happens isnt the CPU and core system however, its the change of OS, as DX12 isnt fully supported on W7 and new GPU drivers for said new GPU likely wont run well or at all on it at that time. So ill be forced to deal with W10/11, the former of which i hate (telemetry, bloat, lesser user control) and would require some work to get a hold of LTSC, the later of which looks like is going to be a skinned W10, so just as bad.
