so i recently bought DDR3 2gb ram for my pc since its likr the most weakest pc, i putted it on and it worked for a few days until i downclocked it into 1033mhz because it was my old ram's frequency. when i putted the old ram it didnt work and i was confused so i took it out and overclocked my new ram into its old frequency but then i saw that i can clock it to 1600mhz and so my stupid brain overclocked it to it. when i checked it the other day (rn) i notice it wasnt working and i immediatly panic. i tried to clean it and it wasnt working i was wondering if it was ram, dimm slot or psu.

here are my specs

CPU: Athlon ii x2 240

GPU: GT210

RAM: 2gb ddr3 and the old ones are ADATA

Motherboard: 740gm-p21 ver 1.0

i am very new to pc building

How many of what size and speed ram sticks do you have installed?  Which slot may also matter but probably won’t.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

1600mhz and 2gb, also i only have one

Perhaps try not using any under locks or overclocks on it, run everything at bog standard, and see what it does, just to try and get things to go since apparently they’re not doing that right now

okay, thank you

The deal is every design of cpu and motherboard overclock a bit differently.  There may be limits of the motherboard or cpu such as ones that make it incapable of functioning above a certain speed or something.  I don’t remember or never knew what athalon’s particular requirements for memory were.  There will be some though. Same with the motherboard.  Generally if bothe requirements are satisfied memory will work. It
