Hi well i am thinking of buy these head sets

Sennheiser PC363D

ASUS Orion Pro

Razer Tiamat 7.1 Elite Gaming Headset

Know as i understand it the Razer Tiamat 7.1 Elite Gaming Headset is the only one with true 7.1 but i do need a sound card then i will be good to go but i don’t have sound card as yet but it’s still an option to me.

I am stuck as all these look good and i have seen a lot review sites and YouTube.

Would like your option on these three.

If in 'Murica, the PC360 is reasonably priced on Amazon.com when compared with separate headphone/mic solutions.

Can i ask what’s wrong with these headsets?

It seems mods a headset is a no go for me I’m not that good in mods department.

These headsets would be used for movies and tv shows not really for gaming through i might get back to gaming.

I have movies thatr are 7.1 and some tv shows are 5.1 so thats why i was going with 7.1 head set and these came up.

I would like 7.1 head set from the list above is their any winner?

All headsets are terrible for sound quality except the few that are made by audio companies and the only one of those that are not overpriced are the pc360s shearme mentioned. The rule of thumb is 2 ears, 2 drivers. The multiple drivers usually sound terrible unless you only care about surround and not the quality of it but usually 2 drivers cab do the same thing but I've heard from gamers complain that it is not as good as the hardware solution. Even if you get a surround headset your onboard should be able to handle it. A sound card will make it worse lost likely with its high output impedance.

Even if virtual surround sound was worth the extra money, Razer's headsets sound terrible. I wouldn't buy the Orion Pros, either. If you absolutely must have a headset, the Sennheiser PC 360 is pretty much the only thing I can recommend. It uses the same drivers as the Sennheiser HD 558s and has a microphone on it. You'd pay about as much buying headphones and a microphone separately.

"7.1" is a complete gimmick for headphones. Some people do prefer virtual surround sound, but never pay extra money for something bundled with a headphone/headset. You're better off getting good headphones (or a good stereo headset from a real audio company if you really need that integrated mic) and then picking your virtual surround codec separately.

That site lists Sennheiser, an audio company with decades of experience, as 3rd place behind two relatively new gaming-branded companies. Gonna have to call BS on that.

TopTenReviews doesn't know what they're reviewing at the best of times. I take it they were after gimmicky gaming-related (wireless, surround sound, etc.) features over actual sound quality.

Well what the best 7.1 head set that you know of in term of sound and confort?

PC 360 + Razer surround (same thing as the 363D in your OP, at a better price).

Okay, let me explain: You don't need a surround sound headset. Virtual surround sound is a gimmick. It's no better than high-quality headphones with a wide soundstage (usually open headphones). Since headsets usually have money dumped into gimmicky features like styling or surround sound, or sometimes wireless capabilities, they aren't a good value. You can buy a great pair of headphones and a quality microphone separately assuming you have a sizable enough budget. Since you can afford Sennheiser PC 363D, either just buy headphones and a microphone or the Sennheiser PC 360 headset (which uses the same drivers as the Sennheiser HD 558 headphones) and then use surround sound software like Razer Surround (since the PC 360 is stereo).

Headphones you could consider:

  • HiFiMAN HE-300
  • Audio Technica ATH-AD900x
  • Grado SR225i
  • Sennheiser HD 598

Just slap an Antlion Modmic on it or buy a Blue Snowflake/Snowball.

Are HE-300 really that good? I'm skeptical since Hifiman is only known for their orthos and the HE-300 is not an ortho.

I have plantronics gamecom 780s which have 7.1 virtual surround and I prefer stereo by far the sound just sounds echo-y and faded when in stereo it sounds a lot better and is easier to tell where sounds come from in games I know they are cheap and not the best quality but the principle is the same.

My Rig : Zotac 780 3GB, i5 4670k, H105, M1211 650W, 8GB 2133mhz vengence pro, Mini R2, 144Hz AOC Gsync Monitor

Is it worth the $250 though? Wouldn't it be better to just step up to the HE400 or save some money and go for some Senns or Beyers?

I'd personally never buy a hifiman product, so you're barking up the wrong tree.

You'd need to buy an amp anyway because HiFiMANs are pretty hard to drive. You might be able to drive the HE300s with just your computer, but you'll want an amp with an HE400. Orthodynamic drivers like amps.

Nope! The 300 is harder to drive than the 400, the 500 harder than the 300, and the 6 is incredibly hard. You can tune an ortho to be hard or easy to drive just as much as you can with a regular dynamic.

They would still benefit from amping, wouldn't they? I wasn't saying all orthodynamic drivers need to be amplified.

What's a benefit? What constitutes as "amping" and what is insufficient?

All signals from a DAC need to be amplified to drive a speaker, no matter what technology that speaker uses, no matter if it's a little tiny driver in an IEM or a massive subwoofer. You can get nitpicky over low THD and other aspects of amplifiers if you really want to go down that dark path, but adding extra amplification realistically only makes things louder.
