Anyone know how to fix issues related to game lag on a laptop. Haven't faced any lag issue up until recently. Now the game runs at 60fps for the first 5 to 10 mins and then drops down to 23-25 fps. Applied thermal compound to the cpu and gpu, changed the nvidia control panel power management setting to consistent performance and the power plan to maximum performance. Changed the ram from 16 to 32gigs. Checked out a couple of YouTube videos on a fix for this and yet there seems to be no luck. :(

what are the temps when you playing?

it could be thermal throttle

its around the 80-85 degree C. I did run an XTU stress test for about 10 minutes but everything checks out fine. In fact, while playing, the game happened to pause and show a pop up saying "the game has detected streaming delays. This might be caused by limited disk bandwidth or limited CPU resources.

Sounds like it could easily be a thermal throttle situation. Watch your clock speeds (CPU & GPU) when this happens... They are probably dropping out.

If this is a new development, think to when it started.

Software updates? Is there OEM software that controls fan speeds? You mentioned upgrading the ram, could you have inadvertantly pulled a fan plug while you were in there? Are you using the laptop in a different place, is there enough air to the bottom of the machine for cooling? Are all cooling fans operational?

I did look into that....but it all looks good and functional...no issues with the hardware and the ram was upgraded just a few days ago while the issue existed much before that. I'm not really sure about the software part of things...as far as my knowledge goes I do recollect having an Nvidia update that might have something to do with this issue but I'm not exactly sure if that could be the only reason... however how can I revert back to an older version of the graphics driver?

Let's get some specs. What hardware are we dealing with here?

Furthermore, have you looked into the OEM software? Generally laptops ship with a branded "power management" piece of software. Regardless of window power settings, these pieces of software can limit your performance and generally cause goofy things. Might take a poke around and see if there are some "performance" settings that you can flip.

i7 7700hq processor and gtx 1050

I had uninstalled most of the OEM softwares that came with the laptop when I got it and just relied on the windows power settings as I have had experiences in the past where those softwares were a bit gimicky and caused issues.

As I own a Dell laptop I do get a notification from Dells proprietary app that lets me know about any new updates that are available for the bios or CPU or GPU and along with there is also geforce experience that lets me know about gpu updates. So I mostly update from there. I did recently uninstall Dells app to see if that would make a difference but I didn't...the problem still exists sadly.

Check your power settings and be sure none of the storage drives sleep when not in use.

Under power options, advanced settings, under hard disk there is an option that says turn off hard disk after and the options say when on battery - 19 minutes and when plugged in - 25 mins do I change that to never? Is that what you mean?

Plus the other thing I noticed was that everyone the game starts to lag the CPU speeds drop down my its base clock speed which is at 2.8 GHz to almost as low as 0.7 GHz is there anyway to ensure that the CPU speeds don't drop that low?

I think @unclewebbcould help you best with power configurations to prevent throttling. Wait for his reply, it'll be a good one I promise!
