Get a chord tab. And just practice switching between chords and getting your fingers in the right places.

When you've practiced enough it should start feeling completely natural to switch between chords^^

its like anything that uses muscle memory, you just need to do it a lot, also check youtube there is a  TED video where a guy explains why you only need 20 hours to learn anything, and he learned to play every pop song from the last 10 years and played them all on stage :P

Get a boring book on chords and play along. Also watch youtube videos to make sure you're doing it correctly. Then practice for hours. It won't be much fun but there's no other way to improve.

I'm a guitarist and I play in a band, so I'll put in what I can.

Develop your own style. Listen to a shit ton of stuff and don't copy anyone else's style or let anyone else tell you how to play, unless it's constructive (things like people telling you that you need more mid/less gain in this particular building, etc. is fair enough). People telling you to learn a certain kind of music just because it's what they like is not on (for example, someone telling you to learn jazz guitar just because they like it, whereas you or your band plays mainly rock). Of course, there are some times when someone will be like "Oh yeah, learn ****, it will really help you", but when it's more like "Learn ****, it sounds way better than what you're playing" or something similar, it just doesn't help.

Use as much of the guitar as possible, where appropriate. I know a guy that plays his electric guitar like a bass guitar (picking one string, mostly just E and A, at a time) and it just sounds horrible.

Don't aim too high with the songs you're learning. I do this all the time and it just discourages me, so learn songs you're confident you can play. It'll make you feel a lot better.

Better gear/better guitars does not mean better playing. It might sound better, but it doesn't help you improve skill wise.

I think that's about it, I might add to it later if I think of anything else. :)

Edit: Just realised that bit after "develop your own style" doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Lets just say I've got a beef with an arrogant smart-ass guitarist who always looked down on me because of what I like to play and told me what to do and what to play. Don't listen to those guys, they're just dicks :P

I think SpaghettiCarbonaras post is pretty accuarate.

Being open to new stuff is also really helpful, like trying something completely different than you did

before to get you out of you comfort zone (and expand it in that way)

I haven't used Rocksmith before, but maybe try to learn a song without the help of it... or learn a song

of a genre that you're not that into or sth. like that
