I've had my MX300 525gb from Crucial for 4 years now and is showing "Good" health but with a percentage of 21%. The total host writes is at 276tb with close to 35,000 power on hours. Should i start thinking about looking into a replacement anytime soon? I don't have any crucial data on it that needs backing up, so if it dies suddenly then it's not the biggest deal but still.

I would start looking at replacements. As apparently those drives are rated to last around 160TBW for 500G model.

Has it started rotating out bad blocks? Check this in SMART. Most drives will start doing that at around 2/3 their lifespan, but it's a good point to replace the drive to avoid any performance or data retention issues.

That being said, the controller and flash combo in the MX300, along with increased over-provisioning, means you can do an awful lot of writes to the drive. The flash is officially listed at 1500 P/E (LDPC) which is still 3x your current write total (mind you, we must account for write amplification - may also be able to calculate this via SMART) but I've seen it tested far higher than that even.

Is that the "Average Block-Erase Count" ?
