Budget (including currency): £900

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: General Gaming

Hello all,

My younger brother has been wanting a gaming PC for a while now and my mother has decided to get one for his birthday! We have a budget of £900 and would be used for games such as Warzone/Fornite etc.

What would be the best hardware to go with?

Thank you in advance.

For that price just buy a pre-built from a boutique company like NZXT, IBuyPower, CyberPowerPC, etc.

Fuck you scalpers, fuck you scammers, fuck all of you jerks that charge way too much to tech-illiterate people.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

Also have a Alienware Alpha R1: i3-4170T, GTX 860M (≈ a 750 Ti). 2x4GB DDR3L-1600, Crucial MX500

My past and current projects: VR Flight Sim: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/nathanpete/saved/#view=dG38Jx (Done!)

A do it all server for educational use: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/nathanpete/saved/#view=vmmNcf (Cancelled)

Replacement of my friend's PC nicknamed Donkey, going from 2nd gen i5 to Zen+ R5: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/nathanpete/saved/#view=WmsW4D (Done!)

But also make sure to check the reviews and make sure you aren't getting scammed. And if you know enough about hardware already you can probably open it up as soon as it arrives to like double the memory capacity or fix a cabling issue that normally happens.

Here's a lista I made quickly. It's more a guideline than anything. It's £150 over your budget because of the current GPU shortage. But you can look for prebuilt that have similar components to the ones I recommended and it would be good. Or you take these components with the non F version of the CPU and buy a graphics card later once the prices settle. Good luck!

Looks like a solid list to me, if you would like to change the case because your brother wants something different, be sure to check the height of the cooler (or post here again and let us check).

Why a B460 board? B460 locks RAM speed to 2666, which can lead to around 15% less performance compared to a 10400 on 3200MHZ RAM.

The Hyper 212 is uncessecary.

Why a 970 EVO???? Your paying a huge tax for a speed you don’t need, 1TB NVME drives are literally the same price. Go with a SN550, A200, or A80 instead.

The TXM Gold is a lot cheaper. I’d just go with that.

geometry is hard
b550 > x570

Thanks for the clarification, I'm not very knowledgeable on Intel motherboards. What would you recommend instead?

ANy decent B560 board would do honestly, just avoid the MSI A Pro boards, and every Asrock board. (they all suck LOL)
