Does anyone know if it's possible to essentially compress my stream to the point where it's not bandwidth intensive for me to stream, however to have all the footage be decompressed and uploaded at full resolution on my VPS. and then have that footage be sent over to my YouTube stream?

Sorry if I phrased that in a dumb way, I know nothing about this.

Maybe a bit if you used something like h.265 or av1 for streaming to the vps, and then re-encoded it to h.264 which youtube wants, but it really doesn't save much, maybe you can get away with 20-30% less bandwidth, users probably wouldn't notice the quality difference.

Download OBS and Streamlabs OBS. Choose 1 for live streaming and set that to a low bitrate, then open the other and set a high bitrate. Record with the high bitrate, stream with the low. Then you can upload the high bitrate version and delete/private the low bitrate one.
