i am thinking about setting up a 4 256gb ssd raid 0 config. How do? Mobo-

Edit: It is just going to be a game/program drive, i do not care about reliability.

I have to ask... Why? What are you going to be using 1TB RAID 0 SSD storage for?

games and programs.

Really wouldn't recommend doing it then. 4x RAID 0 is a lot more likely to fail than a single drive. You'd be better off getting either a 1TB drive or maybe 2x 500GB drives. The performance increase will be so small that you won't actually notice it in most applications.

the thing is 4X256 is half the price of 2x500 or 1tb.

Also, Z77 boards only have 2 6Gb/s ports. Unless you want half of your drives on 3Gb/s, get 2 500/512GB Drives or a single SSD with an XTb HDD.

I don't know how they do math in Canada, but in the U.S. a 1 TB drive is cheaper.

1TB drive: $499 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA29P1EC5324)

500GB drive x2: $558 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA29P1EC5554)

250GB drive x4:  $576 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147248)

So just get a 1TB drive. It'll be more reliable

^Almost every single post you make is about pushing Samsung SSDs.

Don't get me wrong, I work for them, and its great. But dial it back a bit, eh? Unless you have stocks in Samsung or something...

you say ssd i say samsung evo okay okay. you buy samsung evo now okay okay.

A single SATA SSD isnt going to give the same performance as multiple drives in RAID0.

Why does reliability matter? He obviously knows that he should keep his data backed up.

What board do you have? You usually set your SATA mode to RAID, and then you are able to boot into a RAID firmware when prompted while your computer is booting. From there you can create your RAID volumes.

I would recommend you keep your data backed up, as you do increase your risk of losing data in RAID0, but the speed benefits are more than worth it in my opinion.

A PCIE SSD will also give you the same level of performance, but without the increased risk of losing data.

Because they are amazing :D I am a Samsung fanboy I guess :P

Obviously not, but without a proper raid card he will saturate the SATA controller completely. Most people don't need/notice the performance improvement that a 4-way Raid 0 config brings.

Reliability depends on person to person. I personally don't want to take the time to re-install everything if my drive was to fail. Whether I had everything backed up or not, it's still a pain. Obviously the OP doesn't care about that, but he should.
