Hi guys

I am currently working on a new build, which will act as a upgrade to my current PC. Please feel free to look at my profile to see my current build. For my new build I want to have a powerful gaming rig but also a good video editing PC. I mostly game but I do sometimes work with a lot of After Effects projects. I originally got my old system in mid 2010 and the performance is not bad but I just feel it will be nice to upgrade and have a long term project.

My purposed specs are:

Motherboard: Rampage IV Black Edition or Maximus VI Extreme (maybe change if decide to go with haswell-e)

CPU: Haswell 4770K or Ivy Bridge-E (possibly Haswell-E)

RAM: 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum

Storage: 500GB Samsung 840 EVO Raid 0, 3TB 72000rpm Raid 1

Video Card: EVGA gtx 780ti Classified, SLI

Case: Coolmaster Storm Sniper Black (current case) or Corsair 900D

I will use current CPU water cooling

1000 watt power supply

Please feel free to comment on my purposed build and any suggestions you might have to improve it. Do you guys think I should have water cooling or use the Corsair H100i then fans for the rest. Mine unsure whether my 2010 water cooling could manage more than just the CPU. What do people think of the case? I was originally intending on keeping my current case but after seeing the 900D in Linus's videos I just love it haha. Any helpful suggestions or advice from your own experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you do use After Effects a lot, 32GB RAM is great, especially if you've got Premiere, Photoshop, Audition, etc. also running. If you're just doing light work, 16GB usually serves most people fine, though your RAM previews will be a lot more limited. But either way, I would not suggests Dominator Platinums unless you really want the looks. My 32GB of Ballistix cost $280 while the Platinums are $450. Not worth it.

Again, if you're doing a lot of After Effects, the 4930k might be worth it for you. It's hard to tell in your post just how much you do it, but it does increase the price of your rig quite a bit with that single change. A 4770k will serve light use fine. It also depends on the kind of work you do. Lots of video footage, or more graphical assets? Particles or mostly text?

And just forget about Haswell-E. It's going to use DDR4, so that will dramatically increase the price of the rig. Wait a few years for DDR4 to become standard and get whatever processor is out then.

Workstation: i7-4930k | Asus Rampage IV Gene | Reference GTX 780 | 32GB Crucial Ballistix | 500GB Samsung 840 EVO | Corsair RM650 | MidNight Black BitFenix Prodigy M

Old Rigi5-2500k @ 4.7 GHz | Asus P8P67 Deluxe | EVGA GTX 560 | 16GB Corsair Vengeance | 240 GB Samsung 830 Pro | 1TB Hitachi | CoolerMaster Storm Scout (1)

I do use a lot of after effects, when using after effects I use lots of particle systems and I do normally run premiere and photoshop at the same time if I'm doing video editing. However I game as well so I need a CPU that can perform good for both really. Oh right I thought Haswell-E would just supported it but would work fine for DDR3. Ah thanks for the tip on the 4930k and the Dominator. I would prefer performance over looks to be honest.

Yer I was worried about how much the Haswell-E will cost.
