What CPU should i get?

Go to solution Solved by Pixelfie,

i5 for gaming / work, i7 for video editing & streaming. i5 has a higher frequency if you overclock (on a Z390), but the i7 has more cores. The i3 really isn't great. If you don't use a Z390 or don't game, get the i7, otherwise the i5.

I at buying a computer and need a CPU, I am not bound by anything (obviously money) and I found these: Intel Core i5-9600KF 3.7 GHz 6-Core, Intel Core i7-9700F 3 GHz 8-Core and Intel Core i3-10320 3.8 GHz Quad-Core. When comparing them with PC Part Picker the only big difference was the Microarchitecture, L1 Cache,  L2 Cache, L3 Cache and Simultaneous Multithreading.

Does anyone know which is better? And what Microarchitecture means and Simultaneous Multithreading

Microarchitecture is basically referring to the processor generation (9th vs 10th gen) and perhaps also the core configuration (4-8). L1-3 cache can be thought of as super fast RAM directly on the chip. More is better. Simultaneous Multi-threading (SMT) means whether the cores can utilize two threads at once, so you can have 4 cores and 4 threads (no SMT) or 4 cores and 8 threads (SMT). Cores are better, so 8c/8t is better than 4c/8t, but given the same core count, SMT is better: 8c/16t is better than 8c/8t.

For gaming and work, an 8c/16t chip would be your best bet. You can get by with 6c/12t, but 8 core is becoming the normal, even for gaming. Stay away from quad core entirely.

Out of those three I would choose the 9700F..

That hurts a little to say because I do enjoy what little overclocks that can be achieved nowadays with ambient cooling 🤓

But even still you can turn on MCE and get what you can get and still be fairly content I think.
