So here's my dilemma I have an ASrock-z390as-4s-ib mother board lga 1151 socket With a i7-9700kf processor. I want to upgrade to an i9-9700k lga 1151 socket but the caveat is it says it's a (300 series) parts picker says they work together but I cannot find anywhere in writing if the work or not. Is there anyone that could explain to me if this will work or not?

There is no Core i9-9700K.

There is a Core i7-9700K and a Core i9-9900K though.

Also, your Z390 board will work with any 8th gen and 9th gen Intel CPU. Not 6th gen or 7th gen Intel though.

PLEASE STOP [Killing] ME I WILL GIVE Y OU ANOTHER DEAL.

if it works with your i7 9700k

chances are, it has the right bios for an i9 9900k

and i think the z390 chipset comes with the right bios for those chips anyways

but whether the VRM can support it or not is unknown to me

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Your motherboard is a 300 series chipset, so it is compatible with 8th and 9th gen parts. The i9-9900K 8 core CPU is one of those.

LGA 1151 is confusing because it's also present on 100 and 200 series chipset motherboards, like B250 and H170, but those are for 6th and 7th gen parts.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

No point.

i9-9900k is the same CPU as yours except with hyperthreading. It's maybe a 25-30% improvement IF and only if your software can leverage it.

And right now, the i9-9900k is WAAAY too expensive for whatever gains you'd get. None of the Intel options even on new platforms are really "worth" upgrading. I upgraded from an i7-8700k to an i9-10900KF, and it wasn't really noticeable. If you do upgrade, the only thing I would recommend is switching to the Ryzen platform and getting a 5900x. Even the 5800x isn't enough of a jump, in my opinion. At least the 5900x opens you up to a lot of lateral application growth because it has so many cores.

Or do you guys think I should just stick with the i7 series and just get a k model so I can overclock a bit? My main thing is I just wanna get some more power but since I'm limited with the KF I can't do anything.

Isn't the KF overclockable as well? Afaik the F just means the iGPU is disabled, the K means it is overclockable. You'll not get that much more out of it with overclocking, but the i9 probably isn't that much of an upgrade either unless you can make use of the additional cores.

KF is unlocked without integrated graphics.

Thanks, that's what I thought as well. KF is like K with the addition that the iGPU is missing. So KF -> K for overclocking is definitely pointless.

There's some use to it, although my uses don't utilize it. I think the OP mistyped and meant 9900k. I think.

Go ahead and overclock your current processor because you can.

Although your motherboard may be a limiting factor because the power delivery is a bit lackluster. Also we don't know what CPU cooler you're using.
