I need to fix my wifi

DotzHyper

I have had an ongoing battle with my internet for years when I am gaming, and it looks like it's back for round 10. My router is at the very opposite corner of my apartment, I use xfinity. First of all, the speeds I am getting at my desk just aren't nearly as good as I'd like them to be. I wanted to move my router, but we have that stupid coaxial cable that's nailed in. Is there any way I can avoid the coaxial cable or improve the setup at all? I don't have a coax cable in my room so I don't think moca would work (though I'm not too informed on what it is, so let me know if I'm wrong).

The main problem isn't the speed, it is the strength. The wifi simply stops working for a few seconds on my pc, and I end up getting kicked from the game. Let me know if you have any advice or recommendations,

Thanks for reading!

Wifi extender or access point, however I'm not sure how well it would play with Xfinity's router. Or, buy a bunch of ethernet cabling.

I would recommend you to just buy ethernet cable, just basic one, nothing fancy...

Although if you really pushing for the wifi connection instead of cable, you can buy high gain antenna for your pc and maybe router too...

But then again you could get better with cable than wireless, so the choice is yours

Get a separate WiFi 6 or 6E router and disable the built in wireless functionality on the cable box. WiFi 6 isn't just about extra speed; it also has better coverage and reliability, and that benefits any wireless device, even if it's not WiFi 6.

Also, set up separate SSIDs for both the 2.4 and 5GHz bands, and only put your high priority devices on the 5GHz band. Put all IoT and less important wireless devices on the 2.4GHz band. That reduces latency for your high priority devices, especially since IoT devices tend to be very chatty.

What you have is an internet gateway not a router. Essentially that box contains a Docsis 3.0 or 3.1 cable modem and a router. They tend to have horrid WiFi performance. In my honest opinion you're always better off buying a separate modem and router. While this can be a bit of an expense, you tend to get better results. ALSO You're probably being charged around $13 a month rental for that POS gateway, $25 if you have the unlimited data option.

Xfinity has a list of retail devices you can buy and under the rules of the Federal Communication Commission cable operators have to allow customers to use their own equipment if they choose. We have had our SB6141 cable modem for 7 or 8 years. Back when the rental fee was maybe $10 a month. So we have saved tones of money over the past few years.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
