Hi all, I'm Mike.
Hoping for some input:

  • I have a 2070 super and up until a few weeks ago, I was getting idle temps of around 35-40c.
Now I'm getting  intermittent idle temps creeping into the high 50c range - They come down with a bit of tweeking from Afterburner, but was hoping someone had some idea's about achieving a better idle temp?
For context, when playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla, my temps are 60-70c (70c maximum), so overall I'm happy with it, but can't figure out why my idle temps are quite so high.
I've reseated the GPU a few times, because I swapped my CPU air cooler for an AIO water cooler, added RAM and I also added a wifi card, but apart from this, I've made no other changes to my system.
  • I'm running 64 bit Win 10.
  • Setup is as follows:
    CPU : i7-7700K
CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE H100i PRO XT
    Motherboard:  Asus - PRIME Z270
    Memory:  Corsair - Vengeance (4 x 8GB) DDR4-3200
    Storage:  Sabrent 1TB M.2, Samsung - 950 PRO 512GB + 1TB SATA
Video Card:  Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 Super WINDFORCE OC 3x 8G
    Case:  Corsair - 600C
    Power Supply:  EVGA 850W (Gold).
  • The system doesn't crash & I get no error messages.

Thanks for taking a look!

It could be using a type of 0db technology where the fans don't spin. When it's idle and reaching these high 50C temps, are the fans spinning? Otherwise it could be a power setting. I had mine on "highest performance" or whatever it is called and my memory and core would be at their boost frequencies and use upwards of 20% of their TDP. Another one could be if you're using a wallpaper from wallpaper engine or something similar, it uses the GPU so could be causing higher power draw which would obviously increase temps.

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything.

Recommendations: Lian Li 205m (sleek, pretty decent airflow for a non-mesh front panel and cheap), i5-10400f (Ryzen 5 3600 performance, 20% cheaper), Arctic P14 PWM fans, Logitech g305.

Could be that your case airflow is quite different now with an AIO that it's hotter inside.  Adding more ram will also bring up case temps a little.  Did you try running without the side panel?

I recently had the same problem, it was that the card itself was not getting in idle, checks the GPU Core clock and the power consumption, the clock should be way lower than when you are playing and use 10 to 20W at most. My issue was solved by installing the newest drivers. If you already have the latest try using DDU.
