This is good enough for browsing.

Budget (including currency): ~700€, flexible

Country: France

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Basic, no games, mostly web browsing

Other details (he already has a mouse/keyboard/screen, upgrading from a potato, buying soon. Need to buy windows)

Hi!

My uncle has a real potato computer (old computer from a school), and my mother would like to give him a new one for his 60y birthday.
He doesn't play, he mostly uses this computer for web browsing. We aim at a decent computer to last a few years of basic use.

A decent Intel CPU with integrated graphics + a SSD would be nice to give him a smooth experience imho.

The pre-built baseline would probably look something like this: https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00224626.html

Here is what I came up with:

PCPartPicker Part List: https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/DvZZy4

CPU: Intel Core i3-10100 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor  (€139.94 @ TopAchat)
Motherboard: MSI H410M PRO Micro ATX LGA1200 Motherboard  (€76.94 @ TopAchat)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory  (€87.99 @ Cdiscount)
Storage: Crucial P1 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive  (€102.88 @ Alternate)
Case: Cooler Master N200 MicroATX Mini Tower Case  (€59.38 @ Amazon France)
Power Supply: be quiet! System Power 9 400 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  (€49.99 @ Cdiscount)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit  (€119.88 @ Alternate)
Total: €637.00
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

With no graphics card, I guess a H410 chipset should be enough? 6 PCIe lanes is not much, but should be fine for just an NVMe drive

Thanks!

Victor

1TB nvme SSD for just reading the news? 🙂

Tbh it seems a bit overkill to build a PC just for browsing the web.

You could also just get one of those barebones HTPCs, like BMAX, Beelink, NUC, ASRock Mars, etc.

Just add some RAM and an m2 SSD and it's ready to browse.

Some of them even have a mobile i5 in them, so they can handle even 4K video.

DDR4-3200 is not even supported by the mobo, good call!

Why not? They don't seem to be more expensive than sata SSDs

The idea is not to have a solution to be able to browse the web, but to do so comfortably for a few years.

Anyway thanks for the replies, and for your time 🙂
