hi my hp BIOS update stopped at the end and does not continue to restart. can you help me thank you :3

I've seen similar things with System Update on Lenovo laptops. If you continue you use your PC while it updates what it can while in Windows in the background, it sometimes messes with the install, causing it to "stop".

I've always just restarted the PC manually the normal way via Windows and when the PC starts up again, I redo the BIOS update without touching anything and then it finishes and restarts to complete the update.

Yes I know this is HP, it might work differently, but honestly, if it's been like this for a long time, I'd just restart the PC and try again.

From what ive learned, you should NEVER turn off a system while its updating its BIOS because it could brick the motherboard. But then again, if its been like 30+ mins of nothing, i guess you dont have any other option than to restart it and try again, if it even starts again. As stated in the window, dont use the machine while its updating, could cause problems as @BetteBalterZen previously said.

This.
Updating the BIOS is a critical process, that's because if it goes wrong the system is bricked and unless you have specialty tools for fixing this kind of problem you're screwed.
Never use or even bother the machine during the updating process.
As someone else said, if it hangs you may have to restart it BUT if it's already erased the BIOS chip that's not a good idea.... And if it hung after that's been done you've got a problem anyway.

BTW there is no need to update a BIOS if the machine is already running properly, only do a BIOS update if you have to.

What DankDuexez and Beerzerker said is absolutely true. But if it hangs for 15+ minutes, then the update itself has stopped for whatever reason and then what are you gonna do?

I've never seen or heard of any PC's that uses more than a couple of minutes inside Windows when updating the BIOS. Most takes place outside of Windows, in the BIOS environment.

You should just entirely stop trying to update. Something is just not working as intended. Better stop before it messes something up 🙂

Yeah id do that too. Something else i noticed is that you are updating your BIOS with a Windows program? Or is that actually how it looks while updating it through the bios?

If its through windows, then that could be the issue. Try and update it directly through the BIOS itself, if possible.

@NanamiSakora

Most PC manufactures like HP, Lenovo, Acer, you name it, they have their own software you can download and install drivers with, and also firmware and BIOS updates. So my guess is that these programs can store the BIOS file in a ROM somewhere the BIOS can read from after restarting to update.
