So I currently have a Dell XPS Desktop (Pre-Built) and use it for 2 main purposes, for my home security and for gaming. However, when I am not playing any games you wouldn't be able to tell because the computer sounds like its going to take off into orbit. I have 9 security cameras that record on auto trigger and the cpu only displays around 20% at average when its just recording security camera footage. I would like to know if there is any way I could either add a fan, change existing fan, or what I could do to keep this machine from leaving the atmosphere while still providing adequate cooling to the thing. Is it just adding a new fan? Or do I have to go as far as replacing the case? I'd like to just keep what I have so any tips on this would be greatly appreciated.

First it would be useful to know what the actual temperature is. It might be that the fans are running to fast for no reason and we just need to lower the fan speed. Download your temp monitor of choice and check the temperature of the CPU and GPU under no load and then under load and report back.

I don't know the actual temperature and I will run these tests later today to find actual readings, however I'm trying to get this machine to run quieter. I stream every once in a while and the annoying fan noise always gets in the way and since this computer is in the main room, its always super loud at dinner, and when anyone's doing homework. I'm looking for ways to make it quieter and I don't know how to do that, is it just a matter of adding more fans? Or how do I keep it running cool but also quieter?

The system is only as quiet as the noisiest component. You should identify that component.

List your specs.

You can use HWinfo to look at your temps and fan speeds.
