I'm planning to upgrade to R9 5900X from my i5 9600K.
In recent Techquikie upload, I learned about the "Alder Lake" line up from Intel, also "Strix Point" line up of AMD (courtesy: Anandtech), which are both gonna be hybrid cpus (Powerful cores+ Power saving cores).
I'm in a coding workflow with occasional video editing. The far I know, in both of these cases more cores are always better.
What about getting the ryzen 5900X instead of waiting for the future ones (I was waiting for AM5 to launch)?

Here's the deal

AM4 is going away. If you upgrade to 5900X now, you upgrade path ends with 5950X.

Personally, I'd just buy the 5900X. It's overpriced but one of the best CPUs you can get, and as far as things stand, DDR5 memory and windows scheduling for un-uniform core complexes is a far-cry from viable.

AMD going big.LITTLE is just the barest of rumors at this point, and even then, it's like 3 gens from now. It remains to be seen what value proposition Intel is going to bring to the table with Alder Lake, but all indications are a whole lot of nothing. Unless Intel has found some secret magic, the only benefit to big.LITTLE is better power efficiency, which only matters for mobile devices with batteries. As a desktop CPU, you gain nothing.

In any case, it's nothing worth waiting for.

It'll take a bit of time to get the funds, so it'll be fine when it comes.
I would literally wait till death if AM5 would have come with general setup of cores.
We can't even saturate PCI-E 4 speeds in gpus, PCI--E gen 5 would do us no better.

Why not just get a 9900(k, kf, regular,........) cheap upgrade and a really big jump. Then you can see what am5 brings.

Investing in a 9900K right now is closely equivalent to buying a 3900x/5800x after some time, all thanks to scalpers.
You get my point, good sir?

You're talking about a platform that is 3 years away. If you don't need a PC for the next 3 years then sure go ahead and wait.

*if you live near a micro center

In my area, people are ripping off of each other, Even retailers are asking 600USD for a 1650super.
Microcenter is unavailable in my area, otherwise i'd pass my leisure time just hanging out there

What country are you in?

If you don't want to / can't to wait for a 5900x, a 10850k is a pretty good option if it is less/similar price as a 9900k  (assuming you can find it for the equivalent of around 400 USD)

Stuck with a Z390-F mobo, so 10th gen+ is a no go

Assuming a 9900k is very overpriced, you will have to switch the motherboard anyway. btw what country are you in?

It's Bangladesh, neighbour to India
Covid conditions+retailers acting like scalpers are the main issue now.
Also, Gonna get a Asus X570-E for the 5900x, good choice?
(Gonna import all the parts from Newegg though from now on)
