About 3 times over the last few weeks my Nexus 4 has suddenly got very very hot and the battery has reduced 50% in about 2 hours (after about 4 hours its dead from a full charge. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and what with the non fixability of these phones would it be worth trading it in (I can get just under £100 cash for it) and getting a new phone (thing of getting a pay monthly from GiffGaff rather than buying outright again).

Obviously if its a known easy to solve problem I'd rather save what would be about £21 a month for a galaxy S5 and keep it.

Thanks for the feedback guys :D

Na I jest. I am bumping this because the problem is persisting, the phone was overheating overnight , it was plugged into charge this time though so I don't know if the battery would have drained.

I haven't experienced this problem but my Nexus 4's battery life leaves a lot to be desired. It could be the GPS. Try disabling that; the phone gets hot when that's enabled and it drains battery quickly. Check your battery settings to see what's draining the most power. If the issue continues, contact Google for help.

Are you using the original charger and cable? Sometimes 3rd party charging gear doesn't agree with the phone or its battery 100%. If that's not it, the battery IS replaceable, and doing so would more than likely fix the issue and save you investing in a new phone. It's a good phone, explore more options before jumping on to more expensive paths :)

The problem I have with this is I have not changed how I use the phone since I have go it, so yes the GPS may be draining the batter and causing it to heat up, but it shouldn't and didn't before. As for contacting Google they would probably want to replace it but the phone is out of warranty now.

Yeah still the original charger. I am not sure I would want to spend the money trying to save the phone when being phones tend to last about 2 year in 6 months time something else could go on it?

If you got it around the same time I did, the KitKat update might have introduced something else. Again, check Settings > Battery and then figure out what the problem is if it is software. It is kind of weird that the problem introduces itself if you've been using the same settings on your phone since you got it, but it's better to start from square one and work your way up.

I will look into it later. I've just used my satnav to do a 60 mile journey so it will ovs say GPS now :L

On that though, the phone was plugged in for the entire hour long journey but it still drained 25% from the satnav. I used to happily use the satnav and music and the battery would remain the same...
