Steam DL throttle?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this answer, but I humbly bring my question forward to the LTT Community!

 

I currently am running an ASRock b550 Phantom Gaming mobo and am using the wifi adapter that came with the board and my steam downloads have throttled to 15 mb/s and are constantly fluctuating as low as 2 or 3 mb/s and jumping back up to 15. It makes downloading anything through a wifi a pain. It is also the only application with such a sporadic downloading speed. When I test my download speed through wifi it is stable around 75 mb/s and thats with me using my PC and other electronics also taking up bandwidth. Can I get some advice, suggestions or tips?

 

I have restrictions turned off on downloads through Steam, so nothing is preventing the system from downloading faster there.

Steam shows in mb/s while my internet is shown in mpb/s.

75 Mbps is approximately 8.94 MB/second, which is how Steam shows their download speed. Not sure what you mean by it jumping to 15, since that shouldn't be happening with your current plan. Download speed can also fluctuate if you're downloading on a hard drive due to the way hard drive works.

In addition to finding the answer, capitalisation of units is important here (and in general):

m = milli = 1/1000

M = mega = 1000000

b = bit = 1/8 byte

B = byte = 8 bits

 

You are comparing megabits per second, i.e. Mb/s, and megabytes per second, i.e. MB/s.
