Overheat Issue on GIGABYTE GTX 970 WindForce 3X OC Xtreme Graphics Card

Hi,

I am using Gigabyte GTX 970 XTREME Windforce 3x OC  Graphics Card. The model of the GPU is GV-N970XTREME-4GD. The normal GPU temp I monitored is 42-43 degree F. The problem is when I am playing latest games like Marvel's Avengers, Cyberpunk 2077 etc., the GPU gets overheated like 77-80+ F degree temp. Is it fine and normal for this GPU? Would this high temp harm my PC components? I am using a tempered glass side panel case in which the tempered glass gets heated due to the GPU heats. Would the tempered glass shatter due to this heat issue? And Can I lower this GPU temp mannually while running games like Marvel's Avengers, Cyberpunk 2077 etc?

your temperatures are fine (your temperatures are in celsius not fahrenheit).

Those temps are fine it's when it starts to hit 90 C or higher. Also the GPU will start to throttle before it gets too hot.

It's in C, not F. 80F is colder than afternoons in many countries 😄

 

and 80+C isnt too hot, an old card like this can benefit from new thermal paste but it's fine still.

I can't see what it says. You can use most thermal paste, just make sure it's a non conductive one.
Make a X-pattern over the whole chip on the GPU and it should be enough thermal paste. Don't worry if some spills to the side of the die, once you apply the heatsink again.

If it doesn't fix your GPU temps, consider using afterburner or similar software to create a custom fan curve 🙂


EDIT: When you screw the 4 screws for the GPU back in, remember to do it in a cross pattern to evenly distribute pressure.

Have you replaced thermalpaste?

Have you blown out the dust?

What case and fan setup do you have?

 

you could try undervolting too

Does it say "conductive" there? Dont use conductive pastes, without an IHS thermal paste can tough capacitors on the GPUpackage causing a short.

Didn't replace the thermal paste since awhile.

Yeah. Blown out the a few days ago.

Using Gigabyte Aorus AC300W ATX MID-TOWER RGB case. Using a coolermaster RGB FAN as well.

 

How could I undervolt it?

I couldnt find any info about it online so I dont know whether it's electrically insulating enough. 1.05W/mK conductivity is awful though, even the subpar factory stuff are typically 3 to 4W/mK.

Ohh. I actually bought it as a very cheap for $2. Didn't know about the conductivity back then.
