Dell u2713hm or Something else...?

Hi,

I am in the market for a 1440p monitor at the moment, and was rather set on the U2713hm from Dell, as I am sure you are aware. However, since reading more recent reviews from the suppliers that I use, such as Amazon and other LEGIT UK electronics and computer sellers, such as OC UK and Scan etc, it seems that Dell still have wishy washy QC variation from all sellers, and most of the time it is a gamble if you get the flawed ones or the reliable ones. Returning the monitor to the seller is not something I can really do given the fact that I am at school, can't wait in all day and my parents can't either for a pick up man that may not arrive.

So my main questions are as follows:

  1. What is a good, reliable IPS monitor with high sRGB colour accuracy (I dabble in photography and love my accurate u2412m)
  2. Should I just stick with the Dell and hope for the best, am not buying from the manufacturer given their rediculous overpricing when compared with the resellers
  3. Any other suggestions

Please post any personal experiences in the matter also :-)

Budget in this case is preferably less than £450, as shortly down the road I would like to get another 670 to sli.

Thanks in advance,

Jack

Would you be interested in a 4k monitor? You can get them for like 500 GBP.

4k for an extra £100 is totally worth it

:D

So, the OP asks for color accuracy and you say get a TN panel? Logic much.

To the OP: don't be lured into getting a 4K monitor. For starters even with SLI GTX 670S you won't be able to play games on it at any reasonable setting. Secondly, at that price they will all be TN panels with poor colour accuracy. I would go for an ASUS PB Series monitor. I've heard mostly good things about them. Remember though, you'll nearly always get higher failure rates with larger panels, it's just to do with how they are manufactured.

Yeah, that is the thing, I would like something with a fair amount of colour accuracy, I am a bit pedantic about things, especially when I am editing photos, I don't like transitioning between an accurate monitor in the sRGB range to a 70-85% one, kind of annoying, though it sounds weird. I can understand why there are issue with the way that the monitors of that size are manufactured, but the Dell one was apparently a fairly repeated offender in the field of being dodgy.

So you suggest that a PB278Q would be the way to go?
