Phanteks P360a compatible with Razer Chroma Controller?

I just bought a Phanteks P360a case that comes with RGB lights preinstalled (two fans and a strip). My mobo (MSI b450m pro-m2) doesn't have a 3-pin RGB header so I bought the Razer Chroma controller. When I plug the header into the controller, synapse doesn't recognize it properly (when the case is in "software mode" it doesn't show up in synapse and when the case's built in controller is on it says it's just one strip/fan with an absurd amount of LEDs). After about a hour or so of chatting with Razer support they said it could be an issue with the unit I received. So I returned it but before I buy a replacement I just want to make sure it'll actually work. If it's not compatible I'll just upgrade my mobo.
