Build without GPU?

This will primarily be a workstation used for Music Production and 4k/8k Video Editing

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 

 

I'm upgrading from an old 2014 HP Envy 17 laptop w/ 16gb ram and a quad core i7-4700MQ @ 2.4ghz

 

I plan on buying the parts within the next 30 days but this is my first build and I'm wondering if this will be sufficient enough until the prices come down on GPUs?

 

My current build price is around $2,300 but the GPU's at current prices would add about $1,500+ so I'm debating on just building the PC with the current parts list below and just upgrading to an RTX 2080 or 3080 after prices come down a bit.

 

Would there be a significant loss in performance without the GPU? Is it worth building now or waiting?

 

Current parts in my build so far:

 

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950x ($725) 

*Ideally I'd like a 5950x but those are near impossible to find and are more than double original price when found*

 

MB: X570 Aorus Ultra ($310)

 

PSU: Corsair RM750x ($135)

 

Cooling: Bequiet DarkRockPro ($85)

 

SSD: Sabrent 2tb m.2 drive ($250)

 

RAM: Patriot Viper 64gb ($345)

 

Case: be quiet pure base 500dx ($110)

 

Display: LG 32 inch 1440p ($250)

 

Vesa desk mount ($100)

 

Any help/input would be greatly appreciated

The ryzen 3950x does not have a igpu neither does the 5950x.

So you would need to include some kind of basic GPU in the build.

Overall looks good, you will require a GPU though. Even something cheap will work, checked your local used market for something, typically some old Quadro's can be found for $20. That said they may not support 1440p, depending on the model, so you might require something like a GT 1030.

Thank you I see an Asus Phoenix GTX 1050ti for around $350. Do you think this could be a good starting point? I can't find any specs on it in terms of 1440p compatibility

Get a basic GPU, anything old as hell and under $50.  Enjoy life until this shit settles.

^^^ Anything that does display out to the res/refresh rate of your monitor. Just vibe with CPU-only rendering till GPUs are available at a decent price (if you have time and just keep trying, you can eventually snag one).

I was going to suggest a GT 1030, GT 730, or GT 710. Those would be much more cost effective options to hold you over.

Search for a local used deal, $350 for a 1050Ti is criminal.
